Which points should you spend first?

If you hold Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi and Bilt at once, the common award-travel answer is: burn the easy-to-replace currencies first, keep the scarce partners for last — unless a live transfer bonus (or a confirmed award) flips the order.

Not financial advice. Transfers are usually irreversible. We never move points or touch your accounts. Estimates and partner lists live in the app.

Default burn order (when no bonus changes it)

  1. Often burn first: Capital One Miles (and similar “broad but not scarce” piles).
Broad airline coverage, fewer exclusive hotel sweet spots than Chase or Bilt. On overlapping partners (Flying Blue, Avios, Aeroplan, etc.), many travelers pull Cap One before Chase/Bilt/Amex. Live Cap One bonuses can override this — check current bonuses.
  2. Next: hotel portals / cash-out / weaker hotel piles
Portal bookings and cash-out rates are usually ~1¢ floors. Hotel→airline bridges often lose a large chunk of value. Prefer a confirmed high-value transfer over portal spend when the math works — the app shows × cash-out on each row.
  3. Middle: Citi ThankYou & Wells Fargo
Useful airline partners (Turkish, Qatar, JAL, Flying Blue depending on card), but fewer “only here” hotel gates than Chase/Bilt. Card tier matters for Citi ratios — check your card in the app.
  4. Keep longer: Amex Membership Rewards
Deep airline list (including partners many other banks don’t share). Easy for some people to earn again via cards; still worth keeping when your best seats sit on Amex-only or Amex-strong routes. Live Amex bonuses (e.g. Flying Blue) can make Amex the right pull today.
  5. Keep for scarce partners: Chase Ultimate Rewards
Only Chase and Bilt transfer to World of Hyatt. Chase also reaches United and Southwest directly. As of Oct 1, 2026, Sapphire Preferred / Ink Business Preferred transfer to Hyatt at 4:3; Sapphire Reserve stays 1:1. Prefer Reserve (or Bilt) for Hyatt when you hold Preferred-level Chase.
  6. Often spend last: Bilt Rewards
Also reaches Hyatt at 1:1 through Dec 31, 2026 (announced 4:3 from Jan 1, 2027 — see the heads-up in the app). Unique path to Alaska/Hawaiian Atmos among the big transferable piles, plus rent earn and occasional Rent Day bonuses. Harder to refill than Chase for many people — which is why awardtravel threads often leave Bilt sitting.

Your trips beat any default list. If Cap One is the only way to a seat you need tomorrow, use Cap One. If Chase has a +70% Marriott bonus and you already found the stay, that can beat “save Chase for Hyatt.”

Scarce gates worth protecting

World of Hyatt

Bank paths: Chase and Bilt only. No Amex / Cap One / Citi direct transfer. CSP/Ink → Hyatt is 4:3 since Oct 1, 2026; CSR and Bilt remain 1:1 (Bilt until the 2027 change).

Chase → Hyatt · Bilt → Hyatt

Alaska / Hawaiian Atmos

Among major transferable banks we track, Bilt is the clean direct path. Chase does not transfer directly (see our Atmos convert page for workarounds). If you fly AS/HA a lot, leave Bilt alone for Atmos.

Bilt → Atmos

United / Southwest

Chase reaches United MileagePlus and Southwest Rapid Rewards directly. Other banks usually need a bridge. Soft exclusives — still a reason many people don’t empty Chase on overlapping airlines first.

Chase → United · Chase → Southwest

Amex-strong airlines

Amex’s airline list is deep (ANA Mileage Club and others depending on your setup). When Cap One / Citi / Chase can all reach the same partner, many people still pull Cap One or Citi before Amex if Amex is their only route to a different dream redemption.

Amex → ANA · Amex → Flying Blue

When to ignore the default order

Quick checklist before you transfer

  1. Search award space and (if possible) hold it.
  2. Open the loyalty account under the same name. Skip tiny “test” transfers.
  3. Compare overlapping currencies in the app with your real balances saved in My wallet.
  4. Check Convert my points if you need a multi-step path.
  5. Transfer only what you need for that booking.
