When should you buy points?

Hotels and airlines sometimes sell points with a match or bonus. We list the live sales we track — bonus or discount, effective ¢/pt when known, and the end date — with one hard rule.

First class for less. Updated October 5, 2026. We help you find the bonus; we never touch your accounts. No fake scarcity, no “act now” timers beyond the real end date.

The only rule

  1. Price the award first (cash rate vs points rate for the exact stay or flight).
  2. See if a transfer covers it — bank points with a live transfer bonus are often cheaper than buying.
  3. Only buy to top up the gap for that award. Purchases are usually final and non-refundable.

If the sale price per point is higher than published valuations and you have no award booked, skip it. Stockpiling “because there’s a bonus” is how people overpay.

Buy points? Checklist

Before you spend money on points
  1. Have you found the exact award (dates, room or seat, taxes)?
  2. Did you compare cash price ÷ points needed vs the sale ¢/pt?
  3. Could a credit-card transfer (maybe with a live bonus) cover it cheaper?
  4. Is the offer in your account the same % we list? (Many are targeted.)
  5. Are you buying only the top-up — not a stash “just in case”?
