Hotel points to airline miles: every published rate

Yes, you can turn hotel points into airline miles. The rates are usually poor, and the transfer can take days or weeks, so it's best for topping up a specific award you've already found. If you have credit card points, sending them straight to the airline is almost always better than going through a hotel first.

Marriott Bonvoy → airlines35 airlines

Most airlines get 3 Marriott points : 1 mile, and Marriott adds 5,000 bonus miles for every 60,000 points you move (United gets 10,000). So 60,000 Bonvoy points = 25,000 miles (30,000 United). No 60k bonus for American, Avianca LifeMiles or Delta.

Airline miles to another airline

Airline miles generally can't be moved to a different airline. The real exceptions:

Is there a "universal" point?

Not one that works everywhere. The closest things are flexible currencies: Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou, Bilt, Wells Fargo and Rove Miles. Each moves to its own list of 11 to 26 airline and hotel programs, usually 1 : 1. Keep points there until you've found the seat or room, then transfer. Marriott Bonvoy reaches the most airlines (38) but at 3 : 1. Transfers almost never reverse.

Questions

Is it worth sending credit card points to Marriott, then to an airline?

Almost never. Chase or Amex to Marriott is 1 : 1, then Marriott to most airlines is 3 : 1, so you lose about two-thirds of the miles. Even with the Chase → Marriott +70% bonus that runs through Oct 15, 2026, 60,000 Chase points become about 44,000 United miles that way, versus 60,000 sent straight to United. Use the finder above to compare any pair.

Can I convert Marriott points to United miles?

Yes. 60,000 Bonvoy points = 30,000 United miles (3 : 1 plus Marriott's 10,000-mile United bonus per 60,000 points), per Marriott's own page.

Should I transfer before I find a seat?

No. Find the award first, make sure the airline account exists and is in your exact name, then move the exact amount in one go. Some transfers take days, and points can't be moved back.

Where do these numbers come from?

Each step links its source: the program's own page where we could read it, otherwise two or more independent points sites. Bank ratios come from the same dataset as our app. Live bonuses drop off automatically when they end. Rates change, so check the program before you transfer. Last checked October 2, 2026.
